Natural squirrel hair is processed using an ancient technique handed down by furriers, characterised by extreme softness and elasticity. Highly hygroscopic, the fibre is fine whilst its flexibility – associated with a slow and homogeneous release of water – makes it ideal for gilding, watercolour and ceramic painting.

Series 69/L is made with a handcrafted single medium-short quill handle with wire binding that secures the precious squirrel hair to the body of the brush. This type of brush is ideal for slow releases of water and more complicated decorations on ceramics, whilst the lightness of the handle helps the rapid fields of direction and processing gold leaf on the base of the bolus.

The brushstroke is elastic and holds its shape for a long time. When dry, it becomes electrostatic. The selection of sizes is with a view to very fine lines and definitions. Much appreciated by gilders and by professional watercolourists. The quill handle is hollow and easy to handle, acting as a reservoir for more fluid colours.

THE BRUSHSTROKE

The line is long, thin and continuous, being elastic and resistant even if extremely soft. When used lightly, the extremely long and sharp tip creates delicate lines with a slow release of water. When pressure is applied, it has the shape of a very elongated pointed drop.
